Nancy's Home Story & Community Bank's Support

Nancy has always put others first. From fostering kids to joining the fire department at the age of 55, she has always valued the power of community and shown it in all she does. When she and her husband, Dale, moved to the Livonia area from Texas, she turned to Community Bank for financial support and felt right at home. “The employees didn’t know me from Adam, but they really took care of me.”

Years later, Nancy needed help. Her husband fell ill and the medical bills began piling up, including over $20,000 for the installation of a ramp and accessible bathtub in their home. When Dale passed away in 2018, the renovations that were originally considered covered by insurance were now determined to be owed in full, setting Nancy back even further. At age 75 and faced with potentially losing her home, Nancy took on extra work to help make the mortgage payments, which proved to be burdensome.

Thinking back on the kindness and support she received in previous encounters at Community Bank, Nancy turned to us once again and asked for help. She was introduced to Marinda in our Avon, NY, branch who dove right in to help.

Marinda saw a lot of similarities between Nancy and her own mother: both had lost their husbands, both needed financial guidance. “It became personal for me,” Marinda said. “I just said, ‘What can I do to help?’”

Under Marinda’s guidance, Nancy was able to gather and deliver all of her financial paperwork to the branch. A few days later, Marinda called Nancy with one message “We’ve got your back.” From there, Marinda was able to help reorganize Nancy’s finances, allowing her to keep her home without being forced to work more than she wanted.

“I just about passed out,” Nancy said. “Knowing I could keep my home, I was overjoyed.”
