What Business Owners Love About Being Business Owners

Business owners have a job to do. Like, all the time. And despite the fact they have the title of owner, the job description can look a lot closer to titles like janitor, bookkeeper, sales attendant, customer service rep, quality control manager, and every other title under the sun. This is how you know that being a business owner is a labor of love.

While the goal of running any business is to make money and earn a comfortable living, business owners pour their lives into it for reasons that go beyond the bottom line. So what makes it all worthwhile? We asked a group of business owners that very question. Here’s what they had to say.

Julie Bellone, Owner, Austin Physical Therapy – Waterloo, NY
“I have a passion for educating and engaging patients in their recovery through my knowledge of the human body. Helping people recovery from pain and injury is a rewarding feeling.”

D. Ollie Burgess, Owner, Specialty Wood Products – Bloomingdale, NY
“I started this business after a 15-year stint in laboratory science. To be able to work outdoors, work with my hands and at the end of the day to have the feeling that I’ve created something is very rewarding.”

David Dix, Owner, Anytime Fitness – Jamestown, NY
“My favorite part about this job is seeing members reach incredible personal goals and milestones, big and small. Every goal is important, and we cherish and celebrate each one with our members.”

Chad Fayette, Director of Operations, NCC Systems – Offices in Potsdam, Watertown and Plattsburgh, NY
“We love doing business in the North Country because we know our Life Safety Systems are making a difference. To hear from our customers that a fire system we installed helped save a life, a security system deterred burglars from entering their property or a code blue activation at a hospital helped to bring someone back to life are all situations that we are proud to be part of.”

Lauren Lautenschlager, Owner, Jericho Business Solutions – Jericho, VT
“The most rewarding aspect of my business is being able to be a one-stop solution for my customers and helping them to grow their business. I love making connections and building lasting long-term relationships with my customers.”

Mary Martelle, Owner, First Step Print Shop – Underhill, VT
“Our favorite part about owning a business is interacting with all of our wonderful customers. Some people in the community have been with us since the beginning, and we’re lucky to have such a close, family-like community to support us.”

Sue Rink, D.M.D., P.C., Owner, Susan Rink Dental – Dalton, PA
“I grew up in this area and am thrilled to have a job I truly enjoy in my hometown. Hopefully, I have helped people along the way.”

Dr. George Sarandev, Owner, Mountain Dental – Lake Placid, NY
“We love the closeness of our small communities. It’s great that we can get to know our patients on one-on-one basis, learn about their different stories and backgrounds. The people we provide services to are the best! Feeling connected to our communities is a great experience.”
