All for the Students: Community Bank Supports the Tiger Fund for Excellence

Serving customers and strengthening communities. For more than 150 years, we’ve been committed to doing both—supporting the financial needs of our patrons while giving back to our communities through in-kind donations and volunteer service. So when the opportunity to partner with and support the Tiger Fund for Excellence arrived, we knew it was a perfect opportunity to champion the students of the Tunkhannock Area School District.

In the township of Tunkhannock, PA, located just outside of Scranton, the school district’s advisory council established the Tiger Fund for Excellence to support unfunded projects within the school system.

“What we do is we help the children of the Tunkhannock school district with all the extracurricular and co-curricular types of activities,” said Dr. William Prebola Jr., a Tunkhannock school board member.

Barbara Maculloch, president of Pennsylvania Banking at Community Bank and fellow Tunkhannock Area School District board member, brought the fund to our attention in 2011. Since then, Community Bank has supported thousands of Tunkhannock students. Most recently, we helped the district purchase Chromebooks for students during the 2020 academic year. This year, we chose to support the fund with a $5,000 contribution.

“Being involved in the community is, to me, what our name is all about,” Maculloch said. “Help the community, the community will help you back. But you do it because you live here and you’re proud of it. Community Bank is the hugest supporter when it comes to that.”
